Kambaba Jasper is not truly a jasper, but a fossilized form of layered stromatolite- an ancient structure created by blue-green algae. Over millions, even billions of years, the organic material is gradually replaced by silica, iron, and other minerals, hardening the stone and forming its distinctive swirling green and black patterns.

NOTE: This jewelry item has undergone a patina oxidizing process. I tarnish the wire-wrapped jewelry using a liver of sulfur solution, then polish the wire with 0000 fine steel wool and a polishing cloth to create this beautiful antique look. Once the oxidizing process is complete, I apply a clear protective coat over the design to make the piece weather-resistant. This clear coat also seals in the patina, helping to prevent further tarnishing and protecting the wearer from irritation- especially if they are sensitive to copper. (Typically, bare copper or patinas without a sealant will continue to naturally oxidize. This method stops that process and preserves the look you see in the photo permanently.)
